2025 Alien Queen 1:2 Scale from Hollywood Collectibles Review

In the last 20 years the market for expensive, high end collectibles grew tremendously, and there's been some fantastic Alien related releases over the years. I love the high end maquettes and down scaled figures, but full, or at least 1:2 scale is what I wanna own. H.R.Giger's original masterpiece design from 1979 got some large scale releases: notably from companies such as Coolprops and Prime 1, and the Alien Anthology DVD was cased in a scaled down Giger's Alien head. While the original Alien got a lot of spotlight, and rightfully so, The Alien Queen got a lot of phenomenal releases too over the years (such as from Palisades Collectibles and another partnership between Sideshow and Stan Winston Studio) but never had a large size release. Until 2017, by HCG.

Hollywood Collectibles, or HCG, is one of those companies behind some of the high end collectibles for collectors and movie fans. They also released a full scale Terminator T-800 endoskull before Sideshow and Stan Winston Studio. Obviously, due to her size, The Queen as a full scale figure is craziness, yet HCG managed to release a full size, giant Alien Queen sculpture, in which the Queen's face peers out from the darkness, prying open the walls from 1986's Aliens. First of all, that design is, for me, one of the coolest collectibles ever. I love that dynamic pose. It's like a panel from an action graphic novel. It's got a terrific sense of movement and so much life to it. It actually reminds me of two panels from the original 1990 Dark Horse comic Aliens vs Predator issue #4 (this series was actually my introduction to the Queen):

While nearly $2,000 was a little too steep for me, fortunately, years later in late 2025, HCG released a half scale version of that piece, which, while not full size, is more practical, since it doesn't take up an entire wall. I won't lie, I'd love a full size, but with the Queen's sheer size, half scale still comes out in an impressive size.

Love the colors too. Reading comments on social media, I noticed that general movie fans are surprised the figure is blue. While I was surprised by their surprise, I realized you wouldn't know she was blue unless you watched the Behind The Scenes footage. So here it is for new and generic fans: The Queen appears black in the movie, and she is supposed to be black (because the script specifically describes her as black), but the full scale puppet was actually predominantly blue. She was accented with bright blue because in the shadows and darkness it helped to pull up some highlights. Without it, she would just be black void without much details visible. Older figures for years showed her as black, but the higher end collectibles now always present her the way she was actually painted: with blue highlights

If you freeze frame during strobe flashes, you can spot the Queen's actual coloring in the movie itself

The Alien Queen in a large sized 1:2 scale is still a sight to behold and a large size. It's basically the size of a human head, so all you see is  huge jaws with teeth. It's quite a sight on the first glance

Here is the fully assembled piece, completed with the inner tongue and hands. The Queen comes in two versions: retracted and extended inner mouth. I actually prefer the retracted one. As far as the hands, there are some alterations done to their proportions for visual and practical reasons. The fingers should have been much longer, but they would be very fragile and hard to ship if they would have been the same size as in the movie - the fingers alone where almost the size of the entire face. Hands may appear smaller in proportions too, but that's purely for the effect - one hand is actually larger than the other one, but while viewed from intended angles, they appear the same. They've been altered for the purpose of forced perspective. By making the hands smaller, and one larger and one smaller than the other, it brings out the effect of the Queen's face peering out to an even greater 3D effect. It makes the whole piece even larger and deeper while viewed in person.

And this is how the back looks like for the curious ones.

Generic fans assume the sculpture depicts the scene in which the Queen emerges form the elevator, but that's not true at all. First of all, what she used in the movie was a freight elevator. It did not part aside, it had a multilayered cage-type of a gate. Secondly, there's nothing in the design of the sculpture's background that resembles anything in the elevator that's featured in the movie. So what is the Queen emerging from? It's pretty much an abstract mashup of different set elements in 'Aliens'. Obviously, to the left is the lever that opened the airlock. The difference is, it's black and yellow in the movie, brushed silver with black and yellow markings on the sculpture. Obviously, with the black area in the middle which is suppose to be pitvh black darkness, black to the left wouldn't be a good color fit design-wise

The red and yellow warning pattern is heavily featured throughout the colony.

And the Weyland-Yutani logo with its promotional slogan is from the Special Edition version of the movie

The "Level 5" refers to the last level shown in the elevator on the way to the hellish Sub Level 03, although I think an actual Sub Level 03 sign with the signature Aliens colony font would have been much better.

The piece is mostly fiberglass and it’s very heavy. Most of the weight is actually in the top of the Queen so the weight is distributed very unevenly making it very hard to hold, as the top is very heavy but the bottom weights almost nothing. For me, again, it’s one of the best collectibles in existence. Great sculpt, dynamic action pose. My only complaint is that it should say Sub Level 03 as oppose to Level 5. 10/10 from me
